The frequency of the power supply used for induction furnace heating can be from 50 Hz to several MHz. The most important basis for selecting the frequency is heating efficiency and temperature distribution, and secondly, some special requirements for the power frequency of each heating process such as melting, diathermy and quenching are considered. The smelting and diathermy heating process requires uniform heating temperature, while quenching does not require uniform heating temperature, but it is required to meet the thickness of the hardened layer. For smelting, power density and stirring force are also considered.

Furthermore, high-frequency power supplies are generally more expensive than low-frequency devices, and devices with higher power are less expensive than power. Therefore, the choice of power frequency must ultimately consider the comprehensive economic and technical indicators. In the field of surface quenching, diathermy, smelting, welding, etc., the requirements, selection methods and principles of induction heating power supply are quite different. 1, the choice of frequency

The basic principle of frequency selection is to use through-heating, that is, the current penetration depth d is required to be greater than the workpiece hardened layer depth Ds, and vice versa. In general, the relationship between d and Ds satisfies 0.3<1, and the optimal frequency is DS/d=0.5. Table 1 shows the relationship between the current frequency and the penetration depth.

2, the choice of power

The power of the induction heating power supply of the intermediate frequency furnace depends on the power density kW/cm2, that is, the surface area of the workpiece heated once, cm2. Calculate the required equipment capacity based on the power density, taking into account the efficiency of the transformer and the intermediate frequency furnace inductor should be left 1.5 times to 2 times the margin. In production practice, the current frequency and power required for the workpiece are usually selected based on production practice data.
